This pickup is owned by my father. He purchased it in the mid 90s from an estate auction in Valier Montana which is thought to be the original owner. The original engine was replaced with a V8 Mercury engine of the same vintage and type. The original bed was in very poor condition so a bed from a 1938 Ford pickup was used for the rebuild. The wooden bed is believed to be the original from 1938. Body work and painting was done in the mid 90s. I was told by the person that did the body work that the fenders had some imperfections that were smoothed out by Bondo. However the cab and the front grill were in very good condition when purchased in the 90s. The passenger side rear fender was rebuilt with the “tire dimple” from the original 1939 body. The vehicle was driven a few dozen times since the rebuild, mostly in the late 90s. Since then it has been stored under cover. The vehicle is NOT perfect as can be seen in the pictures. It drives down the road at 35 to 40 mph well. The battery / electrical system is 6 Volt. An electric fuel pump is currently installed. Each time the vehicle is shut off it does leak some gasoline from around the carburetor and the engine will stop periodically. After a few minutes it will run again. It may need a carb rebuild or adjustment to the fuel pump. I was told the red canisters mounted on the drivers side are decorative kerosene road flares. The wheelbase measures 122 inch and the inside bed length measures about 96.5 inches. From the best that I can tell this vehicle is a model 91Y with an Express body type but that is not for sure. The speedometer seems to work and the odometer reads just over 41,000 miles but I have no way to know for certain that mileage is correct.
