The common configuration for the cabriolet-style convertible coupes that emerged in the late 1920’s was two seats under the top and two more in an external rumble seat. By the early 1930’s some luxury makes offered ‘convertible phaeton’ and ‘convertible victoria’ body styles that fully enveloped rear seat passengers, but these were beyond the means of the average American. Ford’s 1936 cabriolet convertible, with all four passengers under the top and starting at $675., once again brought opulence within reach of the working man.

This gorgeous 1936 Ford DeLuxe Club Cabriolet is an excellent example of this rare (only 4616 produced) piece of automotive history. Purchased in original condition (1999) by the current owner in Scottsdale, AZ, this lightly restomoded classic is set up for comfortable, relaxed cruising. The upgraded powertrain consists of a smooth and reliable LT-1 350 V8 that passes the torque to a 4L60-E 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive, then back to a Ford rear end with 3.50 gears.

Additional features include a Vega cross steering box, a Super Bell 4″ drop axle, front wheel disc brakes, Chassis Engineering sway bar and leaf springs, a Tanks Inc. fuel tank with in-tank pump, 1935 wire wheels, Flaming River steering column, Stewart Warner gauges, Nu-Relics power windows, and Vintage Air A/C.

Obviously rare and stunning, this classic also runs and drives beautifully, with a relaxed and effortless gait that encourages long distance touring. Maybe you CAN buy class!
